SIERRA CLUB CALENDAR OF ACTIVITIES AND EXCURSIONS

MAY, JUNE, JULY AND AUGUST 2019

** Important notes for the participants of the excursions:

1. ALL EXCURSION REQUIRES RESERVATION

a. If you are not going to participate in an excursion and you have already made the reservation, please let the leader know as another person may occupy your space.

b. From now on, they will not be allowed to participate in future excursions to people who book and do not cancel or do not show up for the trip.

2. OUR LEADERS ARE VOLUNTEERS:

a. Remember that our leaders are volunteers and receive hundreds of calls for their excursions. Therefore, when you do not get the leader, please leave a message and tell him your phone number as clear and slow as possible.

3. PLEASE ARRIVE PUNCTLY AT THE TIME INDICATED.

a. You must sign a "Relief of Responsibility" before participating in the excursion.

b. Remember that the meeting time provides us with time to fill in the relays and review security regulations.

c. To facilitate the process, the leader will send the relay to his confirmation. You can print, fill and bring to the tour.

d. If you are taking a child on the field trip and you are not their parent or guardian, request in advance the permission form that the child's parent or guardian must complete and sign.

4. ALL PARTICIPANT MUST BRING:

a. Water, safe sports shoes, a cape, sunscreen, a hat, glasses, snacks and / or lunch and a backpack to carry your things.

b. It is recommended to bring a camera, binoculars, some money for any meal and your necessary medications. Some excursions require additional equipment.

5. BEHAVIOR ON EXCURSIONS

a. Smoking and consuming alcoholic beverages is prohibited on Sierra Club excursions. We believe in the concept "no trace."

b. You can read more here: http://lnt.org/learn/sin-dejar-huellas. In short, it means that we do not leave any garbage items on our excursions including toilet paper. We ask, in addition, that they bring a minimum of disposable material in the excursions including plastic bottles, for example.

c. Please do not take your pets to the excursions.

Enjoy an interactive bike ride where you will learn about the struggles of the communities surrounding the Caño Martin Peña to achieve its dredging. They will learn about the initiatives of these communities for their economic development and their community tourism projects. Navigate nature Metro Zone with Eco Excursions

Enjoy a boat tour through the Lagoons and Canals that are part of the eastern portion of the San Juan Bay Estuary while you learn about the development history of the metropolitan area. On the way you will learn to relate what happens in the pipe and its impact on the ecosystem that we will visit. We will identify the species of flora and fauna common in the space, and we will navigate between the mangroves of San Juan, Carolina and Loíza. Nocturnal Kayaking in the Humacao Reserve

Enjoy two hours in kayak at night through the mangroves of the Wildlife Refuge of Las Lagunas de Humacao, listening to the sound of nightlife and appreciating nature from another point of view. The Call of Cocoa

Join us to know and support the efforts of a family of farmers in the development of a Cacao farm in Barceloneta. Participate in agricultural tasks typical of the development of a Cacao farm, and learn about its history. There will be a talk about Cocoa and how to choose a good chocolate. Children are welcome to develop love for the land and the value of agriculture. Each child will be able to perform agricultural tasks with an adult. They will be assigned appropriate tasks. To the encounter with our ancestors

Excursion through the area designated as a nature reserve on the Planadas and Yeyesa hills between Cayey and Salinas. We will visit an old isolated and uninhabited village for more than 40 years, indigenous bateyes and other natural attractions or made by the human being. Hard to reach area It is not recommended for people with health conditions that are affected by heat or walking. We will walk in the forest on narrow trails, around 5 hours. The tour takes all day. Kayaking of Birds in Sharks

Enjoy a kayak trip through the Caño Tiburones Natural Reserve. This important reserve, located between Barceloneta and Arecibo, feeds on both surface and groundwater, and is home to at least 125 species of native and migratory birds. Spectacular tour where you can enjoy bird watching and its beautiful canals.

Join us to know the coastal coastline of Isabela by bicycle. We will know the different coastal ecosystems, cliffs, caves, dunes, wetlands, and the forest, along a route of 9 miles round trip. If the weather and conditions of the sea allow it, we will take a well-deserved dip in Sardinera Beach. Municipalities: Isabela. Meeting: 8:00 a.m. Return: 2:00 pm. Level: Moderate / Difficult. Bring: Mountain bike, safety equipment for cyclists, enough water, strong snack, sunscreen, tube repair equipment. Workshops to Certify New Leaders of Volunteer Excursions of the Sierra Club of Puerto Rico

Are you one of those who love nature, our history and the culture of our beautiful Caribbean archipelago, and would love to share your experiences and knowledge about these wonders with your compatriots? Do you want to make a difference by educating yourself about these wonders to protect them?

The Sierra Club of Puerto Rico offers you that opportunity to make a difference by certifying you as a Volunteer Excursion Leader. On Saturday, 8th, and Sunday, June 9th, we will be carrying out the workshops required to certify new excursion leaders. At the Meeting with Our Ancestors (A Campando)

Enjoy the ecological, historical and cultural area that makes up the Lapa river basin. It will include a 3-kilometer walk through the Yeyesa area, and we will camp near the river in an improvised area. After camping we will walk around 2 hours. Meeting: 8:30 a.m. (Saturday). Costeando El Combate: A Photographic Adventure

Capture with your camera the spectacular landscapes, flora and fauna of the Natural Reserve of the Federal Fishing and Wildlife Service of Boquerón. Accompanied by photographer Rosa "Rositin" Ortiz, we will explore the beach of Combate, the Candelaria and Fraternidad lagoons, passing through the oldest salitrales of our hemisphere, and we will arrive at the Los Morrillos Lighthouse where we will enjoy the spectacular cliffs and rock formations that they have been sculpting the sea, the rain and the wind. Bike tour to see points of interest within the community of Palmas del Mar in Humacao. We will visit the beach, Church, Forest of Pterocarpus, grader and fishmonger. Most of the route is down the street. We will make from 5 to 6 stops. Distance: 11 miles. Municipality: Humacao. Limit: 20 participants. Meeting: 8:00 a.m. Return: 12:00 md. When the disoriented Admiral Christopher Columbus made landfall in Taínas beaches, this exemplary life was already a hundred years old. For 700 years they have remained rooted in Borinquen. Steep and Faraglioni

Walk along the coast of Las Cabezas de San Juan. We will walk along cliffs and cliffs, enjoy breathtaking views. We will give you back to this beautiful reserve. Join us to visit and know the places and events that took place in the Coabey Valley and the town of Jayuya during the nationalist uprising of October 30, 1950, together with Don Heriberto Marín Torres, who participated actively in the revolutionary events of 1950, being condemned for it to long years of prison, of which he met nine. We will pedal towards the beach of Punta Santiago observing the coastal communities, passing by the Dike, crossing a neighboring property where we return to the beach of Punta Santiago and the Natural Reserve.
